Madrid: La Liga’s struggling Granada has sacked coach Robert Moreno after a 3-1 loss to Valencia.
Granada’s sixth loss in their last seven matches on Saturday moved them down the table to fourth in La Liga, with just five wins in the season with 25 points from 27 games. Granada was also kicked out of the Copa del Rey in January by fourth-tier Mancha Real.
Announcing the sacking, the club said in a release on Saturday that the club has decided to part ways with the first team coach. From Granada CF we would like to thank Robert Moreno for his work and dedication over this period and we wish him the very best for the future.
The former Spain and Monaco coach arrived in Granada early in the campaign, but never reassured home supporters, who were calling for his sacking in October, while some ill-tempered press conferences, Xinhua reported. Moreno’s strained relations with the local media were also highlighted.
Grenada’s B-team coach, Roberto Torresilla, will take over until a replacement is found.
