Former veteran Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has given a big reaction to Virat Kohli. He has said that there was never any pressure of captaincy on Virat Kohli. He said that in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, runs will come off Virat’s bat.

The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka is to be played in Mohali from March 4. The first match of the series will be the 100th Test match of former Indian captain Virat Kohli. A lot has happened in Kohli’s career in the last six months. Ahead of the T20 World Cup, Kohli had announced that he would no longer captain India’s T20 team. Under his captaincy, India was knocked out from the first round of the T20 World Cup. After this, Kohli was removed from the captaincy of the ODI team even before going on the South Africa tour. He himself gave up the captaincy of the Test team after losing the Test series on the South Africa tour.

Virat Kohli has been waiting for his 71st international century for almost two years. He hasn’t scored a century since November 2019.

There was no captaincy pressure on Virat Kohli: Sunil Gavaskar

Many people believe that due to the pressure of captaincy, he was not able to score runs. However, former opener Sunil Gavaskar does not agree with this. During a conversation on Star Sports, he said,

When Virat Kohli was the captain, he showed that there is no pressure of captaincy on him. He was scoring a century in almost every innings. So I don’t think the captaincy burden was on him. As a captain, you have to look after many things but when you are not the captain, you can focus completely on your batting.
